Types of Molasses from US Sweeteners

At US Sweeteners, we supply multiple types of molasses to suit diverse commercial uses, from baking and brewing to pet food and fermentation.

Blackstrap Molasses (Liquid)

The final byproduct of sugar refining — dark, robust, less sweet, and richest in nutrients (iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium). Brix 79.5–82. Used in baked goods, BBQ sauces, marinades, and feed formulations. Available in 5-gallon pails, 55-gallon drums, 275-gallon totes, and 48,000 lb tankers.
Light molasses is extracted from the first boiling and delivers a mild, sweet flavor with a lighter color — ideal for beverages, light-colored sauces, and traditional baked goods. Medium molasses comes from the second boiling and offers a balanced sweetness with deeper color and richer flavor. Both grades are available unsulphured, USDA-certified organic, and Non-GMO on request. Available in pails, drums, totes, and tankers.
Dried molasses powder is spray-dried liquid molasses combined with a small amount of carrier (typically wheat or soy flour, with corn starch alternatives available for allergen-sensitive applications). Used in dry baking mixes, seasoning blends, dry rubs, instant beverages, and animal feed formulations. Free-flowing, easy to blend, and shelf-stable for 12 months. Available in 25 lb bags, 50 lb bags, and 2,000 lb super sacks.
We work directly with sugarcane and sugar beet refiners to formulate custom molasses grades for contract manufacturers, private-label brands, and industrial producers. Custom Brix levels, sugar profiles, color specifications, viscosity targets, and proprietary blends are all available with appropriate volume commitments. Bulk Molasses — Wholesale Buyer FAQ

What’s the difference between blackstrap and regular molasses?

Blackstrap molasses is the final byproduct of sugar refining — dark, less sweet, and richest in iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. “Regular” molasses typically refers to light (first boiling, mildest, sweetest) or medium (second boiling, balanced sweetness and color). Blackstrap is preferred for baked goods, BBQ sauces, marinades, and feed formulations. Light and medium are preferred for beverages, lighter sauces, and traditional sweet applications.
